NUST UG Admission 2012

 
  1. The online registration process for UG Admissions - 2012 will start from 17 April, 2012.

  2. NUST Entrance Test (NET) will be conducted at the following places: -
    1. Computer Based Test   -        Islamabad (NUST Campus, Sector H-12)
    2. Paper Based Test          -        Karachi, Quetta and Multan

  3. Candidates will have an option to appear in either the computer based test at Islamabad OR the paper based test at Karachi, Quetta or Multan. In case of computer based test, candidates will be required to select the date and session of test after confirmation of deposit of application processing fee through email from NUST. They will be accommodated on the day and session of choice on first come first served basis.

  5. General Awareness subject covering Pakistan Studies, International / Regional Affairs and General Knowledge with 5% weighting has been added in NET.

  6. For BS Mathematics programme, candidates having intermediate or equivalent qualification with Mathematics can also apply.

Undergraduate Eligibility Criteria

 

Engineering


FSc (Pre-engineering group) from any Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education or an equivalent qualification like Overseas High School Certificate/British General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level)/International Baccalaureate/Advanced Placement with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. All non-FSc stream candidates to obtain equivalence certificates from IBCC, Pakistan to apply for the programmes.

FSc / equivalent/(Computer Science Group) with a combination of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Studies or Computer Science for admission in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering & Telecommunication Engineering only.

Minimum 60% aggregate marks each in Matric (Science Group) and FSc/ equivalent exams (Pre-Engineering/Computer Science Group). No deviation in this regard is allowed.

 

BS Computer Science


FSc / equivalent/(Pre-Engineering/Computer Science Group) with a combination of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or Computer Studies/Science

Minimum 60% aggregate marks each in Matric (Science Group) and FSc/ equivalent exams (Pre-Engineering/Computer Science Group). No deviation in this regard is allowed.

     

Medicine & Biosciences


FSc (Pre-medical Group) from any Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education or an equivalent qualification like Overseas High School Certificate/British General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level)/International Baccalaureate/Advanced Placement with Biology, Chemistry and Physics as approved by PM&DC. Any other combination will not be accepted. All non-FSc stream candidates to obtain equivalence certificates from IBCC, Pakistan to apply for the programmes.

Minimum 60% aggregate marks each in Matric (Science Group) and FSc or equivalent exams (Pre-medical Group). No deviation in this regard is allowed.

Marital status for AM College: Unmarried

   

Natural Sciences (BS Mathematics)


Intermediate or an equivalent qualification like Overseas High School Certificate/British General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level)/International Baccalaureate/ Advance Placement (with Mathematics). All non-FA/FSc stream candidates to obtain equivalence certificates from IBCC to apply for the programme.

Minimum 60% aggregate marks each in Matric and Intermediate/equivalent exams (with Mathematics). No deviation in this regard is allowed.

 

B Architecture


FSc/Equivalent/(Pre-Engineering OR Computer Science Group OR any combination including Physics & Mathematics)

• Minimum 60% aggregate marks each in Matric (Science Group) and FSc/ equivalent exams /(Pre-Engineering OR Computer Science Group OR any combination including Physics & Mathematics). No deviation in this regard is allowed.

 

Business Studies / Social Sciences


Intermediate or an equivalent qualification like Overseas High School Certificate/British General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level)/International Baccalaureate/ Advance Placement. All non-FA/FSc stream candidates to obtain equivalence certificates from IBCC, Pakistan to apply for the programmes.

Minimum 60% aggregate marks each in Matric and Intermediate/equivalent exams. No deviation in this regard is allowed.

 
Note: a. Candidates of FA/FSc stream can apply for NUST Entrance Test on the basis of FA/FSc Part-I but confirmation of their admission is subject to provision of FA/FSc certificate or Detailed Marks Certificate (with minimum of 60% aggregate marks) before the commencement of relevant programme of study.
b. Candidates of O/A Level stream can apply on the basis of O Level equivalence certificate, duly obtained from Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) office but confirmation of their admission is subject to provision of A Level equivalence certificate (with minimum 60% marks).
  c. Candidates for Medical/Biosciences programmes have to enter complete FSc or Equivalent exam marks as per IBCC, Pakistan.
 



Entrance Examination


NUST Entrance Test will be Computer-based for the candidates of Islamabad centre conducted in two sessions daily on different dates whereas for the candidates of Karachi, Quetta and Multan it will be paper based to be conducted on one day for all the candidates.

The standard of test will be that of intermediate level education, aimed at evaluation of factual knowledge, comprehension and its application.

Candidates will have an option to appear either in computer based test at Islamabad OR the paper based test at Karachi, Quetta and Multan

Instructions to attempt computer based entrance test along with mock test module is available on NUST website for guidance of candidates.

For paper based entrance test, correct filling of answer sheets is essential. Detailed instructions for the same are given in NUST Prospectus 2012 to help the candidates.

General Awareness portion covering Pakistan Studies, International Affairs and General Knowledge having 5% weighting has been added in NET.

Entrance Test for various programmes will be held in the following subjects along with their weighting:

a. Engineering and Computer Science programmes:*
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Computer Science/Computer Studies, English and General Awareness
b. Medical and Applied Biosciences programmes:
Biology, Chemistry, Physics , English and General Awareness
c. Business Studies and Social Sciences:
Quantitative, Verbal, Intelligence and General Awareness
d. B Architecture
Mathematics, Physics, English Comprehension, Cognitive & Aptitude and General Awareness
e. BS Mathematics **
Mathematics, English and General Awareness
*Engineering / Computer Science candidates can opt for BS Mathematics programme in online registration form. Their merit will be calculated on the basis of Mathematics, English and General Awareness subjects.

** Candidates with intermediate or equivalent qualification (with Mathematics) can appear for BS Mathematics.

International Students

 

Admission


NUST has some SAT specific seats in all UG Programmes for international students. Desirous candidates can avail the facility accordingly, provided they meet the specified eligibility criteria and are willing to pay tuition fee and allied charges of the category.

Entry Requirements


International students will take SAT Subject/Reasoning Test and submit the scores as per following:

A minimum of 550 SAT score is required in each subject to apply for Medical programmes.

Minimum 60% marks each in Biology, Chemistry and Physics subjects in FSc or A Level/equivalent exams (certified by IBCC).

 For admission in Medical programmes (SAT International Seats), following categories will be eligible:

  • Pakistani national students having passed an examination equivalent to intermediate level of Pakistan while being abroad, from a foreign education system.
  • Foreigners and Pakistanis having dual nationality, irrespective of the place of their pre-medical study, Pakistan or abroad.
  • Pakistani students studied abroad for pre-medical but appearing in the Pakistani board from abroad.

Note: B Arch candidates have to appear for Cognitive & Aptitude Test, whose weightage will be included in final merit list.

 
  • SAT Subject/Reasoning test is a computer based test held under the management of College Board, USA. For more information on SAT and how to apply, see their website www.collegeboard.com
  • SAT Subject/Reasoning test score should reach NUST directly from College Board, USA.
  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to provide the SAT scores on the given address by due date:

Last date for SAT scores to reach NUST is July 15, 2012. Scores received after the deadline will not be entertained. NUST institutional code to receive SAT scores is 2790

 

Merit List


Merit list of international students is prepared separately.

 

Final Approval


Cases of the international students, finally selected for admission, will be referred to Higher Education Commission and relevant government department(s) for final approval, as per policy in vogue.

 

Accommodation
